When you know your job and what you have to do, you may wonder what good it can be to set goals. However, many reasons can lead to setting them up. Here are a few
FOR MOTIVATION
Setting goals, whether daily, weekly or over time, helps motivate you. It is not uncommon to give in to inertia and be tempted by procrastination. If you have set time goals for the completion of a task, you will tend to postpone its execution less because otherwise you will delay the next one. You have other tasks to do so you might as well finish the one you are doing. As you complete them, a sense of pride may also appear and thereby increase your motivation. Ideally, you must therefore measure each objective well so as not to be discouraged if you are more and more late in the day on the work you have to do. If you have evaluated them well, the stress should decrease as you accomplish them. Toward the end of the task, you might also say to yourself, “It’s almost done.” A first argument that is worth its weight in gold.
FOR MONITORING ITS ACHIEVEMENT
Setting goals allows you to see that little by little you are reaching them. Some do not hesitate to set up monitoring spreadsheets with percentage of completion of the task. For example, you can estimate that a task is 25% complete at the end of the first day if it lasts 4 days. Every day, you will be able to find that you are getting closer to your final goal. This also increases your motivation. Some companies thus share all the objectives of each unit with the other members. They can thus follow the progress of certain tasks that have an impact on their own work and better organize their own work.
TO DECORTICATE STAINS
Monitoring the achievement of an objective involves defining the various tasks. You are creating a process that will allow you to fully understand all the tasks you perform. Thanks to this action, you can identify those that can be automated or those that you would like to delegate in the future. You take a step back on the time spent for each operation, which can be useful to know, for example, your cost price. Certain operations can thus be delegated to service providers or you can still recruit people who have an appetite or a skill superior or complementary to yours for such and such an operation. Breaking down and measuring tasks also lets you know the time allocated to each operation. You can also sometimes better understand each other's business by understanding their goals.
TO EVALUATE PERFORMANCE
Once the time has been evaluated for each operation, you can follow your performance and possibly draw conclusions. You can see what held you back and assess how to increase your performance. These can be means to put in place or simply to evaluate yourself or your collaborators. In the case of an employee evaluation, you can thus discuss with them on an objective basis and find solutions in the event of poor performance.
PURSUING GOALS IN LIFE MEANS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
Setting goals is taking responsibility. It is to adopt the point of view that one can act on existence. It is not giving in to the temptation of simple rejection of oneself or of the situation that locks us into mediocrity because to reject without appropriating is in fact to accept slavishly. To have goals is to take ownership of things, to take ownership of yourself, to set yourself in motion and to get to know yourself better in this movement. It is also to awaken the will to work because by working we transform things, we create a new reality.
TO SET DIRECTION
Setting goals is above all clarifying your vision. You know where you want to go and how fast. This allows you to give direction to yourself and to others. It also makes you aware that you are part of a whole and that everyone influences the future of the company. The major objective generally applies to the whole team and everyone remains a cog in the wheel of success. You become aware of the value of the work done by all your employees and each understands the impact of the work of the other. This strengthens the group spirit. With an explicit objective, you motivate your troops.
TO FIND SOLUTIONS
This is particularly true if your objective seems difficult to achieve or if your collaborators comment on its unrealistic side. They will be able to point out to you the tasks that they do not think they will be able to carry out within the given deadlines because let us remember if necessary good objectives are SMART therefore certainly ambitious but above all limited in time. You can thus get feedback that you would not normally have because they will explain to you what is slowing them down. So don't be angry if some tell you that the work share is unachievable. Find out why. Simple solutions can sometimes make it possible to go from an unattainable objective to an achievable objective and employees will sometimes be able to tell you how to solve the problem encountered, such as that of automating certain tasks.
